KP Cabinet Reshuffles in 2020 Left Lawmakers Unsettled

The outgone-year 2020 could not bring change in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as promised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government but reshuffles in the provincial cabinet thus changed many things for the lawmakers in a short span.

A number of ministers and advisers in KP were changed after weeks and months on different pretexts.

The series of reshuffles in the cabinet of KP begun with the year 2020 in the province and even a number of blue-eyed party officials had to lose designations.

Dr Hasham Inamullah was made KP Health Minister however the portfolio was taken back from him and handed over to Shahram Khan Tarakai.

But, Shahram Tarkai could not set foot in the health ministry and was removed only after three weeks after he was charged with plotting rebellion against KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.

Muhammad Atif and Shakeel Ahmed were also among the ministers who were expelled for accompanying Tarakai.

Further, the portfolios for Shaukat Ali Yousafzai juggled and he was eventually seated as the Minister of Labour and Culture after losing the information portfolio.

Ajmal Wazir was made spokesperson of the KP government however he had to lose it after charges of irregularities.

KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan ordered a probe against him but the report could not be made public after over five months.

Later, Kamran Bangash was the given charge.

Further, Qalandar Khan Lodhi was sacked as the KP Food Minister for failing to control price-hike and profiteering.

Moreover, After Muhammad Atif was removed as the education minister, a number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers endeavored to get the portfolio.

However surprisingly, the ministry was given to Akbar Ayub who remained controversial from the first day in office on being less educated.

Eventually, after immense public pressure, the portfolio was taken back from him and he was made the minister of communication and works.

In another reshuffle by the KP government, Zia Ullah Bangash got the ministry of information technology (IT) and the portfolio of education was given to Shahram Tarkai once again after charges did not prove.

However, so far, Muhammad Atif and Shakeel Ahmed did not quite manage to make it again in the provincial cabinet.

The number of government officials who have sustained their portfolios for a year is very less.

They include Finance Minister Taimur Jhagra, Law Minister Sultan Khan and Forest Minister Ishtiaq Urmar.
