US-backed Gaza aid group to halt distribution today as UN to vote on ceasefire demand

The US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation will not give out any aid on Wednesday as it presses Israel to boost civilian safety beyond the perimeter of its distribution sites, a day after dozens of Palestinians seeking aid were killed.

The GHF said it has asked the Israeli military to “guide foot traffic in a way that minimizes confusion or escalation risks” near military perimeters; develop clearer guidance for civilians; and enhance training to support civilian safety.

Washington is aware of reports of Israeli soldiers firing on Palestinian aid seekers near a food distribution site in southern Gaza, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt tells reporters at a news briefing.

“We’re going to look into reports before we confirm them from this podium or before we take action,” she said.

The US has stated strong support for the current GHF-run aid scheme in Gaza. Major NGOs and the UN have come out today to denounce the Israeli-guarded aid points after 27 people were killed by Israeli gunfire.
