Uncaring Pakistanis Shared Memes on Power Breakdown
Construction of memes reflects how the nation treated a matter of grave concern which the international media considered as ‘worrying’

Pakistanis turned to social media to make a mockery of the nationwide power breakdown which the international media had termed as ‘worrying’ and shared millions of memes in a span of few hours, indicating how callous they have evolved as a nation.
A massive blackout occurred in Pakistan on late Saturday night due to a technical fault in the national grid. It continued till Sunday afternoon until power was restored gradually.
But, just 30 minutes into the power breakdown, the bewildered Pakistanis started poking fun at the situation and posted around 50 million memes on different social platforms including Facebook and Twitter.
The government came up with clarifications and opposition members censured it.
But, what distinguishing was the response of the nation over a matter that caught the limelight of the international media.

Considering the law and order situation of the country that has deteriorated over the past few months, the massive power failure could have been as threatening as it could be but it seemed like a sensitive situation did not make difference to an ostensibly insensitive nation.

The common people and even celebrities shared humorous memes.

It signifies that Pakistanis have apparently become callous and insensitive even to the issues that require the convergence of all rays of attention and concern.
Instead, Pakistanis vent their anger by sharing memes besides holding those in power accountable over it.

However, there was a silver lining in the whole saga.
No incident of plundering and pillage was reported in the country when it was left in the dark unlike when the blackouts happened in even many developed countries across the globe.
