The de facto chief of Samsung has been jailed for 30 months in a mega corruption scandal unlike in Pakistan, where the unscrupulous elements roam free.
Lee Jae- yong, who is the vice-chairman of Samsung Electronics, was charged with embezzlement along with ousted South Korean President Park Geun-hye.
The case revolves around the payment of millions of dollars to former South Korean President Park through her confidante.
Samsung chief paid hefty amounts to seek government’s favors including a smooth transition of the company’s leadership to Lee to succeed his ailing father.
Samsung’s turnover is equal to one-fifth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of South Korea, which is the 12th biggest economy in the world.
However, the verdict against Samsung’s chief implies the values of justice in South Korea which has refrained from sparing an influential person.
