Appointment of Commissioners in SECP, 20 Names Short-Listed

The Ministry of Finance has shortlisted 20 names for the posts of three commissioners in the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.

In a flurry in the Finance Ministry, 20 names were shortlisted for the appointment of three commissioners in the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

In the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, 2 commissioners are working instead of 5 for about one and a half years. Finally, the federal government has thought of appointing a commissioner to SECP, the most important regulatory body in the country.

According to the sources, the interview process is going on for the appointment of three commissioners in SECP, 20 people have been shortlisted for the three posts of commissioners, and three of them will be appointed as commissioners.

According to sources, the 20 people who have been shortlisted include Bilal Rasool, Raheel Ahmed, Akif Saeed, Khalida Habib, Abdul Rehman Waraich, Khalid Mahmood, Imran Inayat Butt, Abid Hussain, Mian Amir Mumtaz, Zia Al Mustafa, Abdul Majid Alvi, Muhammad Farooq, Mohammad Javed Qureshi, Mujtaba Ahmed Lodhi, Mohammad Imran, Wadia Khalil, Javed Adamji, Syed Amir Bukhari, Siraj Ahmed, and Jahan Ara Sajjad Ahmed are included.

A total of five commissioners are appointed in the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and at this time appointments will be made for three vacant posts of commissioners.

A team of the Ministry of Finance headed by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is interviewing for the appointment of commissioners.

Another tragedy of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan is that 2 of its 5 commissioners retired in March and April 2021. Shaukat Hussain retired in March 2021 and Jozeb Ali in April 2021.

From April 2021 SECP is running all the affairs on the bill of only 2 out of 5 commissioners. It should be noted that Aamir Ahmed Khan was extended as chairman by former finance minister Shaukat Tareen in December 2021.

The Policy Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan has also been inactive since November 16.
