Asad Umar Clears The Air About CPEC

He said that misleading information is being spread regarding the transparency of CPEC projects, debt sustainability, and secret loans

Amid the misconceptions in regards to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Planning Minister Asad Umar and Special Assistant on CPEC Khalid Mansoor revealed that conspiracies are being hatched against the project.

Asad Umar said that a misleading report was published by the United States (US) based international development research lab, AidData.

The minister, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad, said that Pakistan didn’t have a debt problem.

He said that wrong assumptions were being shared by the US think tank regarding the transparency of CPEC.

“Misconceptions are being spread regarding the transparency of CPEC projects, debt sustainability, and secret loans”, Asad Umar added.

He also highlighted that the government had shared all details with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“The IMF is a part of the program and all details regarding the projects under CPEC have been shared in the parliament as well”, he said.

The minister also elucidated that the government has borrowed cheap loans for CPEC at an average interest rate of 3.3% to 7.45%.

He urged the local media to question the misleading information released by foreign media against the project.

Umar said that the same offers were made to the world for setting up the power projects but only Chinese investors accepted those conditions.

“The world wants this project to be a failed one that’s why misleading information is being circulated against it”.
