FBR Chairman Rejects Media Reports About Tax Ordinance

Addressing the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Dr Ashfaq Ahmed said that the media is misleading the nation over Tax Ordinance.
FBR chairman said the media is presenting a contrasting angle regarding tax in the news reports which is disturbing for the citizens.
Dr Ashfaq Ahmed apprised the panel that the Presidential Ordinance seeks to bring certain professionals under the purview of the tax including doctors, beauticians, engineers, chartered accountants, lawyers, consultants and architects who do not pay it on their income.

All the non-filers will be charged on their electricity and gas bills, he told the NA panel.
The chairman revenue board said upon non-submission of tax returns and dodging, mobile phone SIMs will be blocked and electricity and gas connections will be terminated after warnings.
Ashfaq Ahmed also revealed that tax collection was increased by 18.45% as compared to the previous year and revenue of Rs 4,734 billion was collected in the financial year 2020-21 (FY21).
He said that in the first two months of the current fiscal year, the revenue of Rs 850 billion was collected against the target of Rs 690 billion.
He added that the system of tax collection has improved in the past few years.
