CHOGM Gears up for Kigali with Pakistan in attendance

The Commonwealth Business Forum 2022 (CBF 2022) will take place from 21st– 23rd June 2022 under the theme: Delivering a Common Future Connecting, Innovating, Transforming with a focus on ’A global Reset’.

Rwanda will be hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, also known as CHOGM. The meeting was originally scheduled for 26-27 June 2020 but was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The official opening of the meeting will take place on 24th June 2022 and will be preceded by various forums including Youth, Women, Civil Society and Business.

The Commonwealth Business Forum 2022 (CBF 2022) will take place from 21st– 23rd June 2022 under the theme: Delivering a Common Future Connecting, Innovating, Transforming with a focus on ’A global Reset’.

The CBF 2022 will be the first and largest in-person gathering for Governments and Businesses across the Commonwealth since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The CBF 2022 experience has been designed to provide different ways to create meaningful connections, exchange knowledge, contribute to impactful dialogue and consume information.

It will bring together up to 1000 participants, including Heads of State and Government, business leaders, innovators across several sectors, global thought leaders and the Youth.

In his message, the President of the Republic of Rwanda and Incoming Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth H.E. Paul Kagame said “The long awaited meeting will be an important occasion to come together to address the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and to build on innovative technological and economic opportunities to solve other key problems facing our citizens”.

The forum organized through a partnership between Rwanda and the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) will be hosted at the Kigali Exhibition Conference and Exhibition Village (KECV), commonly known as Camp Kigali, which is one of the designated venues for CHOGM.

The CBF 2022 will bring together delegates from more than 90 countries, from both developed and emerging countries and provides a solid platform to engage and conclude trade and investment deals.

It will also provide an opportunity to discuss a number of binding constraints that hinder trade flows and regional integration.

In addition to creating business connections, participants will be able to contribute to shaping agendas, share insights, exchange knowledge, connect and collaborate with a view to delivering practical and feasible strategies and frameworks that will accelerate post-pandemic growth in the Commonwealth.

Some of main topics include, leveraging the commonwealth for a global recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, challenging protectionism and reducing barriers to business, innovation in the commonwealth among others.

Rwanda as a host is a country that has made tremendous development in creating conducive business environment. The country is ranked number one in East Africa and second on the whole African continent in ease of doing business as per the rankings from the World Bank Report. Pakistani Business Leaders are encouraged to participate in the business forum as they also look at the wider Commonwealth family and beyond.
