Bad news for the people of Karachi, K Electric has increased the cost of electricity by Rs 1 71 paise per unit in the fuel price for consumers.

Nepra has decided on K Electric’s request for increase in electricity fuel price adjustment. An increase of 1 rupee 71 paise has been approved for January FCA. K Electric had requested an increase of Rs 2.69 paise per unit.

Nepra has completed the hearing on K Electric’s FCA and quarterly adjustments. A reduction of Rs 7 36 paise is requested for quarterly adjustment.

Nepra reserved decision on the application for quarterly adjustment. A detailed decision on FCA and quarterly adjustments will be issued later.

According to the spokesperson of K Electric, a hearing was held in Nepra on the January FCA and October-December quarterly adjustment request, an increase of Rs 2.69 paisa per unit was requested in the fuel charges adjustment for January 2023.

According to K Electric spokesperson. Electric had applied for a reduction of Rs 7.366 per unit for the quarterly adjustment for October-December 2022.

Under the uniform tariff policy implemented in the country, quarterly adjustments generally do not affect consumers, however, the final decision is taken by the Ministry of Energy, Government of Pakistan and Nepra Authority.

CCPA is the main reason for increase in FCA for January 2023. The price of electricity purchased from G has increased by 67% compared to December 2022.

FCA is dependent on global fluctuations in fuel prices used for power generation and changes in the generation mix.

According to the K Electric spokesperson, the FCA is transferred to the customers’ monthly bills after verification and approval by Nepra.
