In a fresh effort to complete pending 9th review program, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday met Managing Director International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the New Global Financing Pact Summit in Paris.
In the meeting, ongoing programs and cooperation between Pakistan and IMF were discussed.
Recalling their recent telephonic conversation on May 27, 2023, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed Kristalina Georgieva on Pakistan’s economic outlook.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif outlined the government’s measures for economic development and stability. He stressed that all preliminaries for the ninth review under the Extended Fund Facility have been completed and the Government of Pakistan is fully committed to fulfilling its commitments to the IMF.
The Prime Minister said that we strongly hope that the IMF will release the funds allocated under the EFF as soon as possible.
Shahbaz asserted that this would strengthen Pakistan’s ongoing efforts for economic stability and provide relief to its people.
IMF Managing Director conveyed her institution’s perspective on the ongoing review process.
In the meeting, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Sherry Rehman; Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq; Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb; Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Aisha Ghos Pasha; Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Ambassador of Pakistan to France Asim Iftikhar Ahmed also attended.
