Rise in Sugar Price Add Spice to Home Budgets

The sudden spike in the sweetened item’s price has soured the taste buds of the citizens who plan to make sweet dishes and confectionery items on Eid-ul-Azha

The price of sugar has crossed Rs 100 mark after the rise in sales tax on the commodity in the federal budget 2021-2022.

The rate of the daily-use commodity has swarmed up by Rs 10 in 16 big cities of the country.

The sudden rise in the sugar price has soured the taste buds of the citizens who plan to make sweet dishes and confectionery items on Eid-ul-Azha.

The latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed that the citizens of Karachi and Islamabad are buying the product at the most expensively.

The price of the sweet commodity swarmed up by Rs 10 in a week and it is currently available in federal and provincial capitals in Rs 110 per kilogram (kg).

According to PBS data, the price of the daily-use product increased by Rs 5 in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Bahawalpur during the past week and it is being sold at Rs 105 per kg.

Similarly, an increase of Rs 4 was recorded in the product’s price in Sargodha, Sukkur, and Bannu while it rose by Rs 3 in Larkana and Khuzdar.

The rate of the sweet product increased by Rs 2 in Hyderabad, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad.

The sugar price in all aforementioned cities as well as Multan, Sukkur, Peshawar, Quetta is currently Rs 100 per kg or slightly above.
