Skyrocketing inflation: Are rulers taking difficult decisions for themselves or nation?

Present rulers continued the blame game against PTI government and built a narrative of taking difficult decisions to improve economy.

ISLAMABAD: The present rulers have continued the blame game against the previous government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister Imran Khan and built a narrative of taking difficult decisions for the betterment of the country’s economy.

However, the decisions proved to be a disaster for Pakistanis who are now facing skyrocketing inflation in the shape of expensive fuel, essential commodities and other basic necessities of life.

The coalition government’s ministers also continued conducting back-to-back press conferences in response to Imran Khan’s criticism of the failures of the present government in controlling inflation and economic catastrophe.

Yesterday, Imran Khan slammed the coalition government in a public statement for failing to control inflation and risks of an economic collapse. In response, four press conferences were held by ministers including Marriyum Aurangzeb, Rana Sanaullah, Malik Ahmed Khan, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Qamar Zaman Kaira.

A commerce reporter shared a survey report with News360 which revealed the alarming rise in inflation in Pakistan from April 2022 to June 2022.

According to the statistics, the prices of diesel and petrol have been jacked up to 89% and 69% respectively. The flour price is increased up to 29%, pulses 56%, ghee 21%, milk 14%, vehicles 21% and US dollar 30%.

The statistics arose the question of whether the rulers are taking ‘difficult decisions’ for themselves or the nation and how will they bring the country out of the economic crisis.

The coalition government led by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has increased the prices of petroleum products once again and planned more inflation shocks for the nationals.

The government issued a notification to increase the prices of petroleum products.

From July 1, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs 14.85 per litre and the price of petrol has been fixed at Rs 248.74 per litre.

The price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs13.23 per litre and the price of high-speed diesel has been fixed at Rs276.54 per litre. The price of kerosene has been increased by Rs18.83 per litre and the price of kerosene has been fixed at Rs230.26 per litre.

The price of light diesel has been increased by Rs18.68 per litre, while the new price of light diesel has been fixed at Rs226.15 per litre.

The government imposed a petroleum levy of Rs 10 per litre on petrol. High-speed diesel, kerosene oil and light government imposed a petroleum levy of Rs 10 per litre on petrol.

A levy of Rs 5 per litre has been imposed on high-speed diesel, kerosene oil and light diesel. The people are very angry with the government’s decision and say that the government is creating new problems for them.
