The public woes for flour are likely to come to an end as the state-owned Utility Stores Corporation (USC) and PASSCO have reached an agreement on the uninterrupted supply of the commodity to end crisis.
The move would cull the flour crisis in the utility stores existent for the past 40 days.
Under the Prime Minister’s relief package, the 20-kilogram (kg) flour bag would be available in Rs 800.
Sources in USC told News360 that Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation Ltd (PASSCO) would immediately supply 30,000 metric tons of flour to outlets across the country.
Therefore, it added that the supply would make availability of the commodity at all stores and relieve the public.
Sources in the government said that USC would also be supplied high-quality wheat which it would get grind.
This move is expected to redress the complaints regarding the poor quality of flour at outlets.
Sources maintained that the utility stores’ quota of 200,000 metric tons was exhausted mid-November, 2019.
This resulted in a flour crisis at utility stores and stirred a public outcry.

The people were compelled to purchase flour from the market at expensive rates.
However, the utility shopswill be supplied flour to end the crisis and an agreement in this regard has been reached.
Sources told News360 that the corporation had demanded the government to arrange additional 300,000 metric tons of flour.
As an immediate measure to end shortage, some 30,000 metric tons of flour will be supplied to the utility stores.
The decision regarding the remaining quantity sought USC would be taken after deliberation.
The related officials told News360 that the government was formulating a strategy to ensure that the flour shortage does not occur during Ramzan and people get standard-quality flour at subsidized rates.
