Parliament stands in unity with Gaza

The National Assembly of Pakistan has passed a unanimous resolution condemning Israeli aggression, presented by Minister of Law Azam Nazeer Tarar.

The assembly members strongly condemned the genocide in Gaza and called for an immediate halt to the ongoing violence against Palestinians. The resolution also expressed support for South Africa’s petition against Israel in the International Court of Justice.

The session, presided over by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, also observed a moment of silence for Pakistani citizens martyred in Iran, including Professor Khurshid Ahmed and security personnel, with Federal Minister Ataullah Tarar leading the prayer.

The resolution, endorsed by both government and opposition parliamentary parties, condemns the Israeli crimes in Palestine and highlights the renewed aggression starting from March 18, which has resulted in the martyrdom of over 1,600 Palestinians. The assembly reiterated its full solidarity with the Palestinian people and expressed concern over the global community’s failure to stop Israeli aggression.

The resolution called for the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and demanded the international community recognize Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.

Suspension of question hour for discussion on Palestine
Minister of Law Azam Nazeer Tarar moved a motion to suspend the question hour in order to discuss the grave situation in Palestine. While all parties called for a discussion, the opposition’s Pakistan People’s Party opposed the motion. MNA Naveed Qamar argued that the suspension of the question hour was not justified, but PTI’s Chief Whip Amir Dogar emphasized the need for a thorough debate on the issue.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq urged the members to avoid politicizing the matter and affirmed that all records related to the issue were available. Minister of Law Azam Nazeer Tarar clarified that the government would not oppose a discussion on Palestine.

Azam Nazeer Tarar’s remarks
During the session, Federal Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar expressed regret over the silence of certain countries regarding the situation in Gaza. He criticized the silence of some nations in the face of Israeli aggression, calling it unfortunate. Tarar welcomed South Africa’s initiative to take Israel’s actions to the International Court of Justice and reiterated that the resolution of the Kashmir and Palestine issues must align with the United Nations resolutions.

He emphasized that the brutality against Palestinians is escalating day by day, with hospitals, ambulances, and international humanitarian volunteers becoming targets of violence. Pakistan continues to raise its voice for Palestinian brothers and sisters at the international level, and Prime Minister Imran Khan presented Pakistan’s firm stance during the United Nations meeting, calling for the immediate cessation of Israeli aggression.

Information Minister Ata Tarar’s comments
Federal Minister for Information Ata Tarar also condemned the ongoing atrocities against innocent Palestinians in Gaza. He stated that the matter of Palestine should be addressed without political agendas, and practical measures need to be taken. Tarar proudly mentioned that the Pakistani passport explicitly states it is not valid for Israel, further emphasizing his pride in the country’s stance on the issue.

He also acknowledged South Africa’s support in bringing the Palestinian issue to the International Court of Justice, and Pakistan’s full backing of this initiative. Tarar pointed out that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians and violating international law. He praised Pakistani institutions for providing all necessary facilities to Palestinian students, and also commended the efforts of humanitarian organizations sending aid to Gaza, highlighting the assistance delivered through Egypt and Jordan.
