Ongoing inflation and a sharp rise in prices of petroleum products in the country have severely affected every segment of society. It has been reported by local media that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has sent a summary to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to reduce the prices of petroleum products.

However, actress Anusha Ashraf, while reacting to the media reports of petroleum prices cut, launched criticism against the decision in muffled words.

She wrote on Twitter using hashtag of #naive and #petroldieselprice, “When you raise prices by 400% and bring them down 20% to make people happy!”

A Twitterati commented, “Interim elections are around the corner. These are just tactics for face saving and to mislead people. I will be surprised if anything more than Rs 10/litre is decreased. I doubt it. Further the price will against be increased once the elections are over.”

Another wrote, “You just took words right out of my mouth! Rs.80 was increase and now giving relief of Rs.10 to public! What a joke!”

Journalist Qaseem Saeed commented, “Less is more.”

A user expressed suspicion, “Wait till you see the prices go exceed 300-600Rs after sept and dollar rising at the same pace.”
