Drama Phaans Soaring Curiosity With Dramatic Performances

Hum TV’s new production titled Phaans, a story of a young girl who fights back after being sexually abused, depicts that the content of the Pakistani entertainment industry is emerging due to some daring performances. 

For a couple of years, the entertainment industry is gaining momentum by working on projects that reflect the dark side of Pakistani society such as women’s rights, sexual harassment, dowry, and many more.

Dramas like Udaari, Dar Si Jaati Hai Sila, and Ruswai initiated to highlight such issues and successfully created awareness among people.

The main leads include Zara Noor Abbas as Zeba, Shehzad Sheikh as Sahil, Sami Khan as Samad, and Yashma Gill.

The story revolves around Zeba, a fatherless child belonging to a middle-class family, who lives with her mother and a sister.

Zeba’s character is strong, fearless, and not like a typical girl, however, her mother is a reserved parent, fearful of society, who works as a housemaid to raise her girls.

Cutting long story short, Phaans directly highlights the harassment case of Zeba, who was raped during a wedding party, in the first episode.

However, with every episode, the script is unfolding several twists where there are many suspects including Samad, Hashim (Zain Afzal), and Siraj (Ali Tahir), who were in the vicinity of the crime scene when it happened.

Moreover, Zeba’s mother, aware of society’s reaction and consequences, remained resistant in keeping her daughter’s mouth shut about the incident.

Stouthearted Zeba, who is completing her education despite unfavorable financial conditions, accuses Sahil of the act and is steadfast in bringing out the truth even though she knows that she is competing with a rich and influential family.

What else can go wrong in Zeba’s case as she was reported pregnant and her engagement had ended with her cousin but she is continuing her pregnancy as a testimony to prove the injustice done to her.

Interestingly, all the evidence of sexual abuse had been destroyed by the accuser’s family while Zeba was hospitalized.

In all this tough situation, there’s only one person Samad, who has a soft corner for Zeba and stands for her.

Even after airing ten episodes, curiosity remains unresolved in the story as to who is Zeba’s real culprit, making viewers having different opinions about it.

All the characters are in place according to the story and instead of unnecessarily confusing the audience with more characters, the drama has talked about the real theme around some of the main characters of the play.

This time in Phaans, Zara Noor Abbas is winning millions of hearts with her breathtaking performance as compared to her previous drama Zebaish. 

Produced by Momina Duraid and directed by Ahmed Kamran, Phaans is one step ahead of television dramas talking on the subject of sexual abuse in Pakistan so far.
