Iffat Umar Absent For 3rd Time in Ali-Meesha Case

The Lahore sessions court has directed to complete cross-examination from all witnesses until the next hearing on March 6.

The witness for Meesha Shafi, Lina Ghani, leveled serious harassment charges against singer Ali Zafar while actress Iffat Umar did not attend cross-examination for third consecutive time.

The case was presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal Ranjha presided over a defamation suit filed by the singer Ali Zafar on Wednesday.

Iffat Umar who had also claimed to be harassed by Ali Zafar alleged did not appear for her cross-examination for the third time in a row.

During the hearing, the 42-year-old Lina Ghani asserted that Ali Zafar harassed her through his actions and speech which left her in a shock.

Lina told the court that the petitioner put his hand on her shoulder during a fashion show in London back in 2014 and expressed the desire to kiss her in rainy weather. I was shocked hearing this, she said.

On another occasion on a dinner in London, Lina alleged that Ali Zafar had inquired if she was a virgin and ragged on saying ‘How could a divorcee be a virgin’.

The witness for defence claimed that Ali Zafar has harassed at least nine other women but she would not reveal their identity.

After the conclusion of the arguments, the court adjourned the hearing until March 6.

Notably, Meesha Shafi had attended the last hearing in the vilification suit filed by Ali Zafar in 2019. She has been avoiding the court hearings despite that she has visited Pakistan frequently for different projects.

Meesha Shafi’s witness Lina Ghani and lawyer Nighat Daad avoided talking to the media after the hearing.

Subsequently, Meesha’s other lawyer Saqib Gillani said the court has directed the female singer and other witnesses to appear in the next hearing on March 6.

Further, Ali Zafar’s counsel, Umar Tariq Gul, told News360 that Meesha’s last attendance in the proceeding was in 2019. He added that the female singer has been avoiding the proceedings since then.

The counsel apprised that Meesha Shafi’s lawyers have pleaded with the court to conduct the trial daily as their client and witnesses were facing difficulties.

Notably, the petitioner Ali Zafar has completed all formalities including the recording of testimonies.

Meesha Shafi’s other witness actress Iffat Umar has not completed her cross-examination too as she has remained absent from the proceedings despite court orders. Meesha Shafi’s latest tweet was also directed towards Ali Zafar.
