Fawad Khan starrer The Legend of Maula Jatt is setting a global record for a Pakistan-made or Punjabi-language film. The film which has opened on over 500 screens in 25 markets has minted grossed PRK 51cr, $2.3M, globally, setting a new record worldwide, according to Deadline.

The story follows Maula Jatt, a fighter who is seeking revenge against his arch nemesis Noori Natt. Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malik star are the star-studded cast of the film in question.

In the UK collected $355K from 79 locations. In the U.S., The Legend of Maula Jatt grossed $290K, according to Deadline.

Producer Ammara Hikmat said, “The Legend of Maula Jatt has been our labor of love for a number of years. The pandemic came and returned but we knew we had to hold out for a theatrical release, as the film is undoubtedly a big screen experience… We’re so delighted that our film has broken previous records and set a new benchmark for Pakistan-made cinema, loved and lauded not only domestically but by audiences and critics globally.”

Fawad Khan was last seen in the Disney+ Hotstar series Ms Marvel, the article was quoted by The Quint.

According to Indian Express, Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan-starrer epic drama The Legend of Maula Jatt has been finally released, and if Deadline is to be believed, the Bilal Lashari directorial has had quite the opening weekend at the box office.

The reboot of the 1979 classic has raked in a jaw-dropping Rs 51 cr (2.3 mn dollars) globally after opening in 25 markets and 500 screens. The movie has set a new benchmark for Pakistani movies and their worldwide reception.

The story of The Legend of Maula Jatt follows prizefighter Maula Jatt (played by Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan), who is tortured by his past demons and seeks to win against one of the most fearsome fighters of the time, Noori Natt. Apart from Fawad and Mahira, the film also features Hamza Ali Abassi and Humaima Malik in pivotal roles. Its VFX head is reportedly Brian Adler, who has also overseen the visual effects of Avatar: The Way of Water as well as Avengers: Endgame.

The Legend of Maula Jatt, with its expansive budget, smashed ticket counters in the US as it minted $290,000, while in the UK, the figures were higher, with the movie earning a total of $355,000. But it was in the UAE, that the film did its finest after its home ground, earning a whopping $515,000; the Fawad-starrer minted $517,000 in Pakistan.

Film critics and analysts have declared ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ a super-hit movie of Lollywood – a remake of blockbuster Sultan Rahi-starer Punjabi movie “Maula Jatt”.

Pakistan’s biggest and most expensive Punjabi film in Lollywood was released on October 13. It is the remake of blockbuster Punjab movie, Maula Jatt.

The movie reportedly shattered several records as it earned a whopping over Rs90 million on its first day of release, 4.9 crores domestically and 4.4 internationally on 420 screens all over the world.

The movie is released across Pakistan on 100+ screens in all the major cities, 43 screens in USA and 82 screens in the UK.
