Is ‘Coke’ More Important Than Court For “Missing Meesha”?

‘Boom Boom’ takes precedent over any Zoom when it comes to music, but when it comes to allegations and their proof, Meesha Shafi is ‘gone with the wind’

‘Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get’. This dialogue from the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump fits Meesha Shafi due to many reasons.

Meesha Shafi thought that the world would end for Ali Zafar when she tweeted about sexual harassment that may or may not have taken place, but she didn’t expect that the matter would go out of hand for her, just as Tom Hanks’ character predicted.

While Ali Zafar has been appearing in court to clear his name, Shafi has gone missing but only for the courts. For them, she is available on Zoom but for Pepsi Battle of the Bands, Coke Studio, and now Velo Sound Station, she is present in person.

‘Boom Boom’ takes precedent over any Zoom when it comes to music, but when it comes to allegations and their proof, Meesha Shafi is ‘gone with the wind’.

For two years now – and ten summons later – Meesha Shafi is on the run which is sad since it is her word against Ali Zafar’s.

Ali Zafar claims he is innocent, provided visual proof to clear his name, and even won the battle with the FIA that investigated and booked Meesha Shafi and her eight ‘friends’ for their alleged involvement in a smear campaign against Ali Zafar.

The FIR against them was filed for a non-cognizable offense on the order of the FIA special court, even then she seems to have no time for the courts.

But when it is a matter of Coke Studio, Meesha Shafi is always present, just like that backbencher who is always available when there is a free period around the corner.

If Meesha Shafi is telling the truth, why doesn’t she come back to Pakistan, face the court and clear her name instead of hiding in another country and let her friends take the fall?

When Ali Zafar is facing the music, why doesn’t Meesha do the same? Is that because she realized that the case against Ali Zafar isn’t as solid as she initially thought it was? Or is it because she realized that it’s 2020 and proof is required to make or break a person’s career!

How she performed in Velo Sound Station or Coke Studio is an entirely different matter; the question is … as a person on the run, how did she stay on Pepsi Battle of the Bands panel when Ali Zafar was ‘excused’ after the allegations?

How did she become part of Coke Studio and Velo Sound Station when Ali Zafar was out there proving his innocence for a matter that may not have taken place?

It was Meesha’s shortcoming that she didn’t know that there were CCTV cameras in Ali Zafar’s basement, the very place where she claims the incident happened. Was she questioned about it? No. Was she asked why none of the people present in the room agreed to her allegations? Yes, but she maintained that they were Ali’s friends and took his side.

One must remind her that she was also Ali’s friend before the allegations and visited his place regularly with her family; if he was such a bad influence, she should have boycotted him long before, right?

Isn’t it ironic that those who took her side initially are now either switching camp or going neutral; most of the people who tweeted about his ‘other’ incidents either apologized publicly or didn’t exist except on Twitter?

She must realize that she has failed miserably in pulling down Ali Zafar because his film Teefa in Trouble became a hit, he won the Best Actor award at Lux Style Award and was appointed the ambassador on NAMAL Knowledge City by none other than the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

To top it all, the President of Pakistan awarded the Pride of Performance, one of Pakistan’s highest civil honors, to this youth icon for his services to the country. And what has Meesha gotten in return except for Court Summons and loyalists who are changing camps? The same box of chocolate Forrest Gump was talking about!
