Is Meesha Shafi Causing Irreparable Harm to MeToo?
Earlier in 2018, the singer had accused fellow singer Ali Zafar of harassment and her claims were backed by female activists, most of whom were her friends
Despite being the trailblazer of MeToo movement in Pakistan and causing harm to it at the same time, Singer Meesha Shafi once again failed to appear in Lahore’s sessions court to record testimony in the defamation case filed by singer-cum-actor Ali Zafar.
Not only Meesha Shafi did not show up, her two witnesses including Leena Ghani and manager Farhan also skipped proceeding on March 20 on different pretexts.
Earlier in 2018, the singer had accused Ali Zafar of harassment and her claims were backed by female activists, most of whom were her friends.
However, the male singer had approached the court against harassment charges and accused Meesha ran a vilification drive against him on social media which tarnished his reputation.
Therefore, two cases of civil and criminal nature are under adjudication against the female singer.
Meanwhile, Ali Zafar’s lawyer Ambreen Qureshi said that the defendant in the civil defamation suit did not attend the hearing on March 21 which was her last chance to provide evidence.
As expected the brave and revolutionary activist Leena Ghani failed to appear in court Once AGAIN. Farhan was also busy. Every time a new excuse is presented. Judge has given last warning to appear on 3/4/21, if not their right to evidence will be closed. #metoo #MeeshaShafi https://t.co/QsT0zgoTmb

On a question by News360 regarding Meesha’s return to Pakistan for a recording but leaving without attending trial, Saba Hameed said that her daughter came to Pakistan when the hearing was not impending.
She urged the court to carry out her cross-examination in the case for which she had been waiting for long.
The campaign’s supporters and social activists contended Meesha Shafi’s absence has caused irreparable damage to MeToo drive of which she should have been a torchbearer.
