Superstar Mahira Khan has shared her ‘favourite lines’ from a soulful song of the Brooklyn-based Pakistani vocalist Arooj Aftab in her recent Instagram post.

Superstar Mahira Khan has shared her ‘favourite lines’ from a soulful song of the Brooklyn-based Pakistani vocalist Arooj Aftab in her recent Instagram post.

Mahira Khan shared artwork of Abdal Mufti, captioning it, “Every time I see a picture of a girl twirling, I’m not sure why, I feel like it’s me. Whirling in my own world.. in my own idea of love and life.”

She was of the view, “Sometimes that world comes crumbling down.. but the good part is a line of poetry, a song, a piece of art.. anything that reminds me of that world can take me right back.”

The actor exhibited her affection to the songs sung by Arooj Aftab, who is known for her work in minimalist, jazz and neo-Sufi idioms.

Mahira Khan wrote, “Today.. it was this – one of my favorite lines sung by one of my favorite artists. ‘Ghair ka dhoka, mujh ko na dena… Tujh mein mein aur mujh mein tu… ‘”

Vocalist Arooj Aftab had released her first album ‘Bird Under Water’ independently in 2014 that gained popularity globally besides awarding her the spot on NPR’s list of 200 Greatest Songs by 21st Century Women and NPR’s 100 composers under 40.

‘Siren Islands’ was her second album released in June 2018 with New Amsterdam Records that was spotted The New York Times’ ‘The 25 Best Classical Music Tracks of 2018’, whereas, NPR included it in their Best Electronic/Dance of 2018 list.

The vocalist’s third studio album titled Vulture Prince was released in April 2021 which tells the stories of people, relationships, and moments lost, and the album is dedicated to the memory of her younger brother, Maher.

Her third album was also celebrated among music publications including NPR Music, NPR Classical, BBC Radio, Pitchfork Magazine, Al Jazeera and others.

Arooj’s song Mohabbat from this album was listed by Barack Obama as one of his summer playlist favourites for 2021.
