Naz Dharejo: Pakistan’s Toughest Woman in Film “Nazo”

The drama industry in Pakistan has aired hundreds of dramas to entertain the viewers, however, very few of the productions were meant to pay tribute to the living legends in the country. The first short film by Sarsabz Kahani, “Nazo”, based on the story of a truly courageous woman Naz Dharejo moniker “Pakistan’s toughest woman” has taken over the internet with more than five million views.

Sarsabz Kahani is the YouTube channel of Sarsabz Fertilizers, a brand of Fatima Fertilizers Company Limited, Pakistan.

The short film depicts a story of a woman belonging to Tehsil Qazi Ahmed who fought bravely against the feudal system in the province of Sindh.

Naz Mukhtiar Dharejo alias Waderi Nazo Dharejo is a Pakistani activist and politician. Her real-life story revolves around the fight between her and relatives over the disputed land.

In August 2005, Naz Dharejo’s relatives tried to occupy her land with help of hundreds of dacoits, however, the courageous lady along with her husband led the armed defense against them.

British Pakistani filmmaker Sarmad Masud got hold of the story through a news article and produced “My Pure Land” depicting the motivational story of an extraordinary woman who defended her family bravely from feudals.

Waderi Nazo has been working as a social activist in her area to help poverty-striken people especially farmers.

According to a user on Twitter, the lady has been very active and vocal for the rights of villagers.

He maintained that there has been a time when a poor farmer was unable to perform the last rituals of his dead son due to the oppression of the feudal lord.

Naz Dharejo confronted all odds and fought for the rights of the debtor.

Producing a motivational story like Nazo based on the real-life struggle of Naz Dharejo has been an admirable initiative taken by Sarsabz Kahani.
