PTA Pleads Islamabad High Court to Ban Netflix
A film trailer was aired on Netflix with blasphemous content and PTA had blocked 452 out of 778 links of the controversial content
American over-the-top content platform Netflix has been famous across the world including Pakistan for its distinctive series and shows, however, it’s on the brink of facing a permanent ban by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in Pakistan.
According to the reports, a film trailer was aired on Netflix with blasphemous content and PTA had blocked 452 out of 778 links of the controversial content.
PTA presented the report in front of Islamabad High Court (IHC) where Justice Aamer Farooq termed the report satisfactory.
The authority has further highlighted in front of the court that the content was aired only on Netflix and if it was on other websites then strict measures would be taken to get the content down.
However, the petitioner’s counsel requested IHC to keep the matter pending.
PTA maintained that Netflix should face a ban permanently in Pakistan for uploading a “sacrilegious” film.

However, in the last hearing, PTA has maintained that it has already asked social media websites to set up their offices in Pakistan.
The hearing has been adjourned for a period of two weeks with the orders for PTA to submit another report.
Netflix has become a vogue in Pakistan for the past few years leaving behind the conventional mediums in the run especially amid coronavirus pandemic.
