Tahafuz Markaz: Saba Qamar praises Islamabad police’s initiative for transgender protection

Tahafuz Police Khidmat Markaz & Reporting Center for transgender launched to make police access available and effective for the most vulnerable community, says the actress

Famous actress Saba Qamar has praised the initiative of Islamabad police for the protection of the transgender community by launching Tahafuz Police Khidmat Markaz and Reporting Center.

Islamabad police department has recently operationalised Police Khidmat Markaz and Reporting Center for Transgender in the federal capital. The Islamabad police department also posted the latest podcast to highlight their efforts to curb violence against the transgender community.

While praising the initiative, Saba Qamar wrote on Twitter, “I extend my support to the commendable initiative under the patronage of IG ISB Ahsan Younas, who has launched TAHAFUZ Police Khidmat Markaz & Reporting Center for transgender to make police access available and effective for the most vulnerable community.”

The YouTube video of the Research Society of International Law (RSIL) stated, “Transgenders in Pakistan are often disowned by their families and live together in communities, usually led by a guru.”

In the video, host Iqra Bano Sohail, a junior research associate at RSIL, discussed the role of police in minimising violence against the transgender community in Pakistan with the assistant superintendent police (ASP) – Islamabad Police Beenish Fatima.

It stated, “The Rights Podcast Series explores issues related to human rights in Pakistan. It is an initiative of the Centre for Human Rights (CHR) at the Research Society of International Law, Pakistan (RSIL), an independent, non-partisan think tank based in Pakistan.”

The Centre for Human Rights (CHR) is a dedicated institution conducting research on international and domestic human rights issues, raising awareness and building state capacity in Pakistan.

The initiative of the Islamabad police has also received praises from other showbiz personalities.

Urwa Hocane wrote on Twitter, “What a commendable initiative! TAHAFUZ Police Khidmat Markaz & Reporting Center has been launched for transgenders to make police access available & effective for the most vulnerable community. This is brilliant! You brave woman Beenish Fatima.”

The police officer said in a tweet, “Tahafuz- police khidamat markaz and crime reporting unit for Transgender is brainchild of sir @ahsanpsp (Muhammad Ahsan Younas – Inspector General of Police Islamabad) and without his stance and support wouldn’t have been possible. It provides relief to the most vulnerable!”
