Sarwat Gilani Raised Voice Against Coerced Marriages

WEB DESK: Sarwat Gilani, a Pakistani actress, raised her voice in support for a Christian girl Arzoo Fatima, who was allegedly forced to convert to Muslim to solemnize marriage with a 44-year-old Muslim man in Karachi.

The actress pleaded her fans to raise their voice for the rights of minorities in Pakistan. “My religion Islam doesn’t allow us to force people against their will, there should not be an infringement of rights”, she said.

Gilani further added that “no religion allows forced marriages especially no one has the right to coerce interfaith marriage”.

She strongly supported Arzoo Raja, a 13-year-old Christian girl kidnapped in Pakistan. As the word goes on, Arzoo’s father Raja informed police that the girl was kidnapped on October 13, when the parents were not at home.

Later on, the suspect, Ali Azhar, produced the certificate of marriage, stating the age of teenager is 18 and claiming that she has willingly converted to Islam.

The case has led to protests in Karachi and other cities demanding justice for Arzoo.
