PPP leader Sharmila Faruqi also couldn’t hold finding fault with Ayeza Khan’s scene in her latest drama Laapata in which she misused her social media power to level false accusations of harassment against a shopkeeper.
This has happened at a time when the country is witnessing one after another case of sexual harassment and social media is echoing for justice to the victims.

A scene from the drama spread like wildfire where Geeti, a TikTok star, could be seen blackmailing a shopkeeper with false harassment claims.
While numerous celebrities and internet users have cast aspersions on the team and especially Ayeza Khan for trivializing the harassment issue, some of them believed that Geeti shall be taken as a character, who is depicting how people in the society are abusing the power of social media.
Agreeing with the majority, Sharmila Faruqi took to her Instagram handle and as she was ‘appalled’ to see what content is being shown on national television and questioned how Ayeza Khan agreed to it.
“Trust me, harassment is real, it’s hurtful and just destroys you”, she wrote.
Moreover, Sharmila acknowledged that people idolize dramas and insensitivity towards a sensitive issue will only spread negativity in the society and women will continue to be a victim.
However, Journalist Mahwash Ajaz criticized those denouncing Ayeza Khan for playing a grey character and said they would have endeared it if Scarlet Johansson would be doing so.
