‘A Suitable Boy’ Controversy Shows Extremists’ Rise in India

WEB DESK: A controversy erupted over Netflix’s web series ‘A Suitable Boy’, alleged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for hurting religious sentiments.

The complaint was submitted by Gaurav Tiwari, National President of BJP’s Yuva Morcha, in Reeva, against an intimate scene between a Hindu girl and a Muslim boy in a Hindu temple.

He tweeted that the streaming service Netflix is promoting ‘Love Jihad’.

BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra have sought action against the online streaming giant after the complaint.

‘A Suitable Boy’ is an adaption of Vikram Seth’s novel with the same name.

The series was released on Netflix on October 23.

It revolves around the story of newly independent India (1951), where families were in a struggle to arrange a suitable match for their daughters.

Prior to this series, a controversy erupted against Pakistani actress Saba Qamar along with Bilal Saeed for shooting a video song in a Wazir Khan mosque.Allegations were made against the duo for disrespecting the religious place.
