WEB DESK: The Queen’s Gambit, written and directed by Scott Frank and based on the novel by Walter Tevis, a seven-part limited series has topped the list on the Netflix charts in Pakistan.
The Queen’s Gambit series started in the same week with Suitable Boy, a novel-based series by Mira Nair.
Although both have different genres but as they were released in the same week and created by adroit directors, it was assumed that both would go neck-to-neck.
The Queen’s Gambit story revolves around a character, Beth Harmon, who used to live at an orphanage in Kentucky and develops an astonishing talent for Chess. However, she develops an addiction to green tranquilizers that children were doled out at the orphanage.
Beth Harmon gains stardom in the board game and plays matches on the world stage. The chess adroit has to fight with her addiction and obsession as well as memories of her troubled past.
IMDB rating for The Queen’s Gambit is 8.9 while Suitable Boy got a 6.2.
