Urdu literature lost its second benefactor within a week of the death of Amjad Islam Amjad, internationally renowned voice actor, host, director, and actor Zia Mohiuddin passed away in Karachi at the age of 91 after a brief illness.

Zia Muhyiddin’s funeral prayer will be offered at Imambargah Yathrab in Defense Phase 4 after Zuhr prayer today.

Zia Mohiuddin was under treatment in a private hospital in Karachi due to his health condition. In the past few days, Zia Mohiuddin was admitted to the hospital due to fever and severe abdominal pain, where it was found that there was a tumor in his intestine after an ultrasound.

A defect developed on which his intestine was operated. After the operation, Zia Mohiuddin was shifted to the intensive care ward of the hospital where he died during treatment.

Zia Mohiuddin was born in Faisalabad on June 20, 1931. His father had the honor of being the writer and dialogue writer of Pakistan’s first film ‘Teri Yaad’. Zia Mohiuddin graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in the 50s. Received formal acting training. In 1962, he played a memorable role in the famous film ‘Lawrence of Arabia’.

Zia Muhyiddin began his career as a voice actor with Radio Australia, worked for a long time in British theatre, and appeared in British cinema and Hollywood.

He was the first South Asian actor to grace Broadway, in the 70s he started a unique program called Zia Mohiuddin Show on PTV.

Zia Mohiuddin was appointed as the director of PIA Arts Academy in 1973. After the martial law of General Zia-ul-Haq, he returned to Britain. In the 90s, he decided to return to Pakistan permanently.

He brought Urdu poetry and prose to the world with his talismanic voice, he was considered to be the greatest reader of Urdu literature. He especially recited Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poetry in a very beautiful manner, besides English letters. And he had no second in reading literature.

Zia Mohiuddin was married for the third time to actress Ezra Mohiuddin, with whom she had a daughter, Alia Mohiuddin, in 2002. Zia Mohiuddin was about 70 years old at the time of her daughter’s birth.

The Government of Pakistan awarded Zia Mohiuddin the Star of Distinction in 2003 and the Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2012 in recognition of his services. In 2004, Zia Mohiuddin founded the National Academy of Performing Art in Karachi and served this institution till the last moments of his life. Be the head.
