Why Netizens Cry Out For a Ban on Dhoop Ki Deewar?

Ban Dhoop ki Dewar

The most being-talked-about web series, Dhoop ki Deewar, featuring Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly is all set to release this month but in a trice, #BanDhoopKiDewaar started trending on Twitter for several reasons in Pakistan.

The series that will be aired on Zee5, an Indian streaming media provider, was written by Pakistani writer Umera Ahmed, the name associated with many gripping scripts.

Dhoop Ki Deewar revolves around the story of two young lads, a Pakistani girl Sarah and an Indian boy Vishal, while the topic covers the Pulwama attack and Kashmir issue.

Netizens in Pakistan seem disgruntled that the show is going to be aired on an Indian platform while some of them mocked the series for covering a highly sensitive matter.

Umera Ahmed, being the writer behind the series, was condemned for selling her words to a nation that is behind the mass killings in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the writer elucidates the matter on social media and maintained that the web series was actually written for a Pakistani content company Group M, that sold the story to Zee5.

She also explained that the topic revolves around the Kashmir issue and the writer sent the script to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) for approval.

Meanwhile, addressing the criticism that she romanticized one of the most controversial topics, Umera Ahmed explained that Dhoop Ki Deewar is not a love story instead a social tragedy.

As soon as the explanation appeared, #BanDhoopKiDeewar started trending on social media.

However, a few of the users are of the view that this is not the first time when such content is produced. Earlier, numerous cross-border stories were produced both in Pakistan and India.
