Young Rappers Prop Up For Ali Zafar, Criticized Meesha
Meesha Shafi has been called by the Lahore Session Court on January 18 as she was found guilty of running a defamation campaign against Ali Zafar
Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar’s fight has been a hot issue since 2018 when Meesha ignited the #MeToo movement in Pakistan and accused Ali Zafar of physically harassing her “more than one” occasion. Recently, the brawl takes a new turn and young rappers in Pakistan have cropped up in support of Ali Zafar and criticized Meesha.
The shift has disenchanted supporters of Meesha, a famous singer and actor, who was previously lauded for breaking the culture of silence around sexual harassment in Pakistan.
The accusations set off a media frenzy and defamed Ali Zafar’s reputation as a number of women came forward with accusations against the male singer on Twitter.
A case was filed against Meesha at the FIA’s cyber-crime wing by Ali Zafar for running a vilification campaign against him on social media.
Ali filed the complaint that many social media accounts and members of civil society are posting defamatory material against him on social media that is causing damage to his name and career.
However, young rappers in Pakistan are producing short clips in favor of Ali Zafar. Faizan, an independent rapper, has posted a video on his Twitter account claiming this views on #MeToo movement ignited by Meesha Shafi.
“These are my views on the campaign against you and freedom of expression is my right”, he penned down.

Another young rapper, Yasir Akram, a lecturer, and an O-levels teacher, has uploaded a short song in support of Ali Zafar and dedicated it to the singer for his resilience against the “#MeToo saga”.
“The brands, people, friends might have left you Ali, but you have given the devil his due. Stay Strong Ali!!! Blessings for your wife as well who supported you”, Yasir maintained.
