Following an exponential rise in coronavirus cases during the fourth wave, the medical experts say houseflies are adding insult to injury as they might be a carrier of delta variant in the metropolis.
The new delta variant is spreading like wildfire in Karachi and led to the imposition of a week-long lockdown until August 8 to curb the spread of the virus.
One of the research studies suggests that a housefly can hold the virus within itself for around 24 hours, however, nothing has been officially confirmed in this regard.
From houses to public places and restaurants to hospitals and even in vaccination centers, these flies have completely taken over the city after Eid-ul-Azha.

In light of the study, some medical experts believe that the houseflies could be a reason why the cases in Karachi are increasing rapidly.
On the flip side, some of them were in a state of denial that houseflies are the carriers of delta variant.
However, despite the threat, the administration has not sprayed streets, hospitals, or even vaccination centers with insecticide let alone disposing of garbage from different parts of the city.
Moreover, unhygienic wards and restrooms in hospitals, uncovered gutters and contaminated water stagnant on roads are also one of the causes why these flies are ruling the city and perhaps infecting hundreds of people on daily basis.
The experts said that the government’s lack of attention triggered an increase in the positivity rate of coronavirus cases.
