Asad Umar Hints at Smart Lockdowns in Country

Amid proliferation of Delta variant of covid-19, Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar hinted at the possible economic dip caused by pandemic if the right decisions (smart lockdowns) are not be taken at the right time.

The lawmaker, who is also the head of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), shared an article by Bloomberg that narrates the story of the Indian economic crisis after the deadliest second wave in the country.

Asad Umar also underscored the importance of a smart approach instead of opting for blanket lockdowns.

“It shows the crippling impact the severe Indian lockdowns had and continues to have, on the hundreds of millions of the most vulnerable”, he added.

He highlighted that vulnerable and the poor in India are suffering because of ill-considered policies of the government and the severe lockdowns are leaving ruinous impacts on the population.

Notably, NCOC data reveals that the positivity ratio jumped up to 5.2% and the active cases surpassed 40,000 in Pakistan until today.

In Karachi, the positivity rate reached as high as 17.11% and the Sindh government decided to reinforce covid-19 restrictions, lifted few weeks ago.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced the return of SOPs and precautionary measures throughout the province.

NCOC’s also urged the citizens to follow SOPs and take the jabs to curb the deadly variant.
