British Lawmaker to Introduce Bill for Ban on Botox, fillers for Teenagers

Conservative Parliamentarian has garnered support from her counterparts

LONDON: A Conservative Party Parliamentarian in the United Kingdom (UK) has called for a ban on cosmetic surgeries and features enhancement procedures for teenage girls.

Laura Trott is pioneering a bill to criminalize the provision of Botox and fillers to people below 18-year-old.

She cited one of the surveys according to which as many as 100,000 people under 16 underwent cosmetic treatments.

“This cannot be allowed to continue”, Laura vowed.

The conservative lawmaker has managed to garner support from her counterparts.

Parliamentarians blamed the influence of social media for the normalization of cosmetic treatments among the young as they voiced support for the bill.

The politicians expressed dissent that there were no legal restrictions on cosmetic treatments for youngsters aged below 18. They held TV Stars from shows such as Love Island for inciting youth to modify their natural looks.

Botox and fillers at a younger age have reportedly caused infections, scarring, tissue death, and even blindness in some cases.

Laura said that unscrupulous practitioners were flooding social media with unfeasibly cheap offers for multiple treatments, called “Kim Kardashian packages” and “Kylie Jenner packages”, alongside pictures of the celebrities.

The British politicians cited that many cases surfaced where the girls had to get their lips partially amputated followed by other complications after the surgeries.

They called for regulations of a sector exonerated from everything else.

Regulations in many European countries and the United States (US) are far tighter than in the UK. Although Botox is mostly used by older women to prevent wrinkling of their faces, the treatment has gained popularity among young women who hope it will prevent lines.
