The deadly Indian Delta variant of coronavirus has affected nine members of a family in Karachi, the health department confirms.

Sources have confirmed that all members were immediately admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of Lyari General Hospital.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) In-Charge Professor Anjum Rehman said the infected patients include a couple and their children.

He added that all available facilities are being provided to the victims and the hospital staff is alerted.

The in-charge said that the medics and paramedics are dealing with the patients with extra precautions.

Further, the officials said all 42 ventilators in the ICU ward of the hospital have been occupied by the coronavirus patients while 100 of total 130 beds in the HDU are also inhabited.

Moreover, the health department is still searching for indicators of how the family has contracted the virus.

Sources said some members of the family have recently arrived in Karachi from Dubai and there is a possibility they contracted Indian variant from the visitors.
