DRAP Approved Pakistan’s First ICU Ventilators
Clinical trials of the ventilator were also conducted in Jinnah Hospital Lahore under the supervision of senior doctors, biomedical engineers, and medical researchers
Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) shared the glad tidings with nation and announced the development of country’s first indigenous intensive care unit (ICU) ventilator ‘i-Live’ that has been approved by Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, PAEC’s scientists and engineers developed the ventilator meeting all essential quality standards and requirements.
“Besides passing through all internal reviews and testing, the ‘i-Live’ ventilator also successfully passed the independent reviews and testing conducted throughout the development lifecycle by the evaluation team from Pakistan Innovation and Technology Center and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC)”, said PAEC.

It added clinical trials of the ventilator were also conducted in Jinnah Hospital Lahore under the supervision of senior doctors, biomedical engineers, and medical researchers.
“The ventilator successfully passed all stages of engineering evaluation and medical validation”, it added.
PAEC spokesperson Shahid Riaz Khan informed that ‘i Live’ ventilator was also approved by DRAP.
“This is a giant leap towards self-reliance in designing and manufacturing of life-saving equipment,” he added.
Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry congratulated PAEC for developing the “#MadeInPakistan” ventilator.

“Pakistan’s success in developing international-level medical equipment in the last two years is worth appreciating. I want to congratulate engineers, technicians, and the entire team. You have raised our heads with pride,” he tweeted.
In July last year, Pakistan-made ventilators were prepared when Fawad Chaudhry was the minister of science and technology, however, those did not receive approval from DRAP.
