GB Attains ‘Pakistan’s First Corona-Free Region’ Status
As per details shared by focal person, no active cases have been found at the moment in GB’s 10 districts and all existing patients have recovered
With the start of March, coronavirus cases have increased from 3.31% to 4.16% in Pakistan but there is a silver lining that Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region has been proclaimed ‘Pakistan’s first corona-free region’ with no active coronavirus cases, by the health department in GB.
Owing to the current pandemic situation in the country, National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) reviewed the situation and announced not to lift restrictions untill further notification.
However, the situation in GB seems convincing as Dr Shah Zaman, a senior member of the health department and focal person of GB government for coronavirus, informed media that at the moment, there are no active coronavirus cases in the region.
As per details shared by the official, currently, there are no active cases at the moment in any of GB’s 10 districts as all infected patients have recovered.
“Despite limited resources, coronavirus was controlled,” Dr Zaman said.

As per sources, the vaccination drive in GB began in February at Governor House where health workers were administered vaccine jabs.
Nearly 8,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine were sent to GB, as told by NCOC.
Gilgit Deputy Commissioner (DC) took to his Twitter and announced the glad tidings that daily positivity ratio in GB on March 10 fell to 0.00% with no active cases at the moment.

The chart shared by the official showed recovery rate at 97.92% and mortality rate at 2.08% in the region.
New Zealand was the first country that declared itself coronavirus free and lifted all restrictions.
However, after violation of precautionary guidelines, coronavirus cases started reemerging and the state had to reimpose lockdown.
