Prime Minister Imran Khan shared that the construction of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMT) Hospital in Karachi is going according to schedule.

The premier shared the photos of the ongoing construction site on his Twitter.

According to Imran Khan, the healthcare facility for cancer patients will become operational in December next year.

Another interesting detail is that the Karachi branch of SKMT Hospital will be twice the size of its first branch in Lahore.

Former national cricket team captain and current Prime Minister Imran Khan started fundraising for the hospital in Lahore on December 10, 1989 during a match at Gaddafi Stadium.

At his request, the cricket fans cooperated and he was able to collect a donation of around Rs 3 million.

The foundation stone of the hospital was laid on April 25, 1991 and it was inaugurated on December 29, 1994. The construction of the hospital cost Rs. 677 million.

Some Rs 231 million were spent on the hospital building while the remaining amount was utilized to procure machinery, equipment, and other purposes.

Imran Khan laid the foundation stone of Shaukat Khanum Karachi on December 29, 2016 in Phase-V of Defence area.

It will cover an area 20 acres of land and will cost around Rs 13 billion.
