Pakistan reported 84 polio cases in 2020 but with active polio eradication campaigns, the country reported only one case this year
In the latest development pertaining polio cases in Pakistan, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan shared the biggest milestone achieved as the country reported only one case this year.
For a very long time, Pakistan has been considered as the exporter of Wild Polio Virus (WPV) with the highest number of cases.
Although, the misconception still resides among the citizens about the polio vaccine and a lot of people don’t trust it, leading to the failure of polio eradication campaigns in the region. Last year, Pakistan reported 84 polio cases whereas Afghanistan had 56.

However, this year both of them have reported only one case through active polio drives.
PM shared the major achievement on his Twitter handle and gave a little glimpse of the telephonic conversation with Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
Imran Khan thanked the co-chair for his assistance through Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in bringing down polio cases in Pakistan.
Imran Khan assured to take relative measures to wipe polio off the map.
Spoke with Bill Gates last night & thanked him for the help his Foundation provided for polio eradication in Pak. This time last yr we had 56 reported cases – this yr so far only 1 case. InshaAllah we will eradicate polio completely in coming yr.

Moreover, the prime minister added that he has requested Bill Gates to set up a Microsoft “incubation lab” in Pakistan.
Also asked Bill if he could set up a Microsoft incubation lab in Pakistan.
