Karachi ‘Punjabi’ Doctor Harassment Case Takes a Twist

The incident of harassment of a female doctor at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi has taken a twist as it has been found that the victim holds two domiciles.

Assistant Professor and Gastroenterologist Dr Nazish Butt had alleged that she was harassed and blackmailed on gender and ethnic grounds.

She claims to be the only female gastroenterologist working at any public sector hospital in Pakistan.

As the news came to the fore, the digital news platform The Current picked a spicy headline without going into details of the incident. But, it has turned out to be not just journalistically wrong but factually too.

JPMC management formed a four-member inquiry committee to probe into the allegations of harassment.

Sources said that Dr Nazish held two domiciles which she used for the benefit at relevant times.

She used the domicile of Sindh to get admission to the Karachi University while for getting a job at JPMC, the medical practitioner used the domicile of Punjab.

Sources claimed that some doctors had decided to bring the matter to the notice of authorities after which Dr Nazish leveled allegations of harassment.
