KP on Verge of Outbreak With Emerging Dengue Cases

After the monsoon season, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province is witnessing the emergence of dengue virus as some 62 cases have so far been reported in 11 districts of the province.

Amid already ragging covid-19, the paramedics in the province have warned about increasing dengue cases in KP that could result in an outbreak.

The health authorities conducted tests in 13 districts and cases returned positive in 11 of them.

The highest number of infections was reported in the Khyber district with 31 dengue patients.

As per reports, tests of 9 people returned positive in Kohat while 2 each patients in Battagram and Buner as well as 1 each in Charsadda and Hangu were brought to the hospital on suspicion of dengue.

Some 10 people were screened in Haripur of which 2 were positive while the virus was detected in 1 of 15 patients tested in Lower Kohistan.

During the past five years, the dengue virus terrorized the province and dozens of the citizens died of it.

The locals are in fear of another dengue outbreak this year that could take a heavy toll on them.
