Leprosy Hospital in Manghopir: a Hotbed For Patients

They informed her that the hospital is unable to provide them with clean drinking water and food while power outages add insult to the injury

The leprosy hospital in the Manghopir area of Karachi has become a hotbed for patients due to dearth of facilities and they are bound to stay in a miserable condition in the ill-fated hospital.

On Wednesday, Dr Shahida Rehmani of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Member Central Executive Committee (CEC) Ali Akbar along with Karachi Commissioner Danish Saeed visited the hospital running under the administration of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The patients under treatment in the hospital complained to Dr Shahida Rehmani about the lack of facilities and numerous other issues.

They informed her that the hospital is unable to provide them with clean drinking water and food while power outages add insult to the injury.

The complainants also informed that water supply of the hospital has been disrupted and the pharmacy does not provide required medicines.

Not only this, drug addicts roam freely on the premises and are habitual of stealing patients’ belongings.

While paying heed to the complaints, Dr Shahida Rehmani directed KMC to open the under-construction block in the hospital for heart patients.

As per analysts, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari often claims that the party’s focus is on the health sector in the province and the government is keen to provide better health and hygiene facilities but they appear unfounded.

The leprosy hospital, in a pitiful and agonizing condition, is calling for immediate action by the government and authorities to facilitate the patients under treatment.
