More deadly and contagious new variants of covid-19 have been detected in Sindh which are not even responsive to available vaccines in the country, warns provincial Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho in a video message.

The health minister said that available vaccines had no efficacy against South African and Brazilian mutations of covid-19.

Dr Azra told a genomic study conducted by Aga Khan University (AKU) showed presence of UK-strain in 10 samples and South African and Brazilian strains in two samples.

She urged the masses of Sindh to ‘take care’ as the vaccines will not be proved effective against newly-landed variants of covid-19.

Dr Azra warned that negligence on part of people would create unparalleled pressure on Sindh’s healthcare system.

She told that both new variants have high fatality rates besides being highly contagious than old forms.

“Avoid even small celebrations at home, avoid going out unnecessarily, it does not matter if you have not shopped for Eid”, she pressed in the video message.

Dr Azra lamented the way people were roaming in the markets sans face masks.

The minister said that at present, the situation was under control but irresponsibility could make it grim.

“If the virus spread like India, we will be in deep trouble. We need to take preemptive and precautionary measures”, she warned.
