New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is one-on-one with the coronavirus pandemic as she imposed a nationwide lockdown after a man tested positive, the first covid case in 6 months.

The media reports reveal that the case was detected in Auckland and so the town is advised to stay in lockdown for a week while the rest of the country is restricted to just 3 days.

The medical authorities claimed that they are investigating the case if the patient was infected with delta variant because only 20% of New Zealand’s population has been vaccinated so far.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the toughest “level 4” rules are imposed which include closing schools, offices, and all businesses with only essential services remaining operational.

“I want to assure New Zealand that we have planned for this eventuality. Going hard and early has worked for us before”, she said.

On that note, columnist Dan Wootton termed Jacinda’s zero covid fantasy is nothing short of a never-ending nightmare.

Soon after the news of lockdown broke out, Auckland’s residents rushed to supermarkets to stock up their necessities.

The New Zealand government has immediately imposed a lockdown as the age of the patient is 58 and recently, health ministry data says that all covid positive cases detected at the country’s border in recent weeks were of the delta variant.

Previously, the country had been successful in eliminating the virus from within its borders.
