‘Pakistan Could Experience Third Wave of Coronavirus’

PMA official suggests that restrictions shouldn’t have been lifted until at least 70% population is vaccinated

The health experts are seeing relaxations in restrictions of coronavirus as threatening and they fear Pakistan may have to deal with the third wave of coronavirus if precautionary measures are disregarded.

The country has not become free of the virus and the vaccination drive has not come to full strength.

In a bid to normalize things, National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) removed time and accommodation restrictions after nearly a year but the health experts warn it could usher the third wave of coronavirus.

Under revised directives of NCOC, the time restriction on commercial activities has been removed while workplaces have been allowed to call full strength.

From March 1, the schools can conduct classes five days a week with full strength at offices.

Not only this, the decision of indoor wedding ceremonies and opening of cinemas and will also come into effect from March 15 after a review meeting of NCOC scheduled on March 10.

Commenting on the decision taken by the government, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) General Secretary Dr Qaiser Sajjad said it was taken in haste and there could a third wave of coronavirus in Pakistan.

He added that restrictions shouldn’t have been lifted until at least 70% population was vaccinated.

Dr Sajjad said that the infection rate was going up once again. To sensitize people about the virus and vaccination, the medical practitioner suggested that advertisement should be run between Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches of brief interviews of doctors who have been administered vaccine.

The practitioner added that the government should remove misconceptions regarding the coronavirus vaccine prevalent in society.
