With the third wave of coronavirus pandemic on the way, the hike in prices of life-saving drugs has created another challenge for low-income groups.

The rates of life-saving drugs have escalated drastically as the government remains ignorant of the difficulties of the masses.

With an increase of 15% in the prices of basic medicines, especially life-saving drugs, people are concerned about affordability.

The new price of insulin has reached up to Rs 6,500 in Pakistan. The government set a new price of Rs 5,500 for the drug, however, the profiteers are selling it in up to Rs 6,500.

In addition to it, prices of antibiotics including Augmentin, gastric medicine Risek, and high potency vitamin tablet Surbex-Z have also gone up.

Surprisingly, the prices of various medicines have been increased without the approval of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).

With the rise in prices, the masses are left with no option other than to either reduce doses or discontinue treatments.

They have called for the government to immediately take action against hiked drug prices and make them affordable.
