PTI Hikes Drug Prices Twelfth Time in 3 Years

The government has also registered some new medicines which are nearly three times more expensive compared to India, Bangladesh and Turkey

For the 12th time in the 3 years, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has hiked the drug prices yet again.

The prices of some 50 medicines have been increased between 15% and 150%.

Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a notification in this regard as well.

The authority has also registered some new drugs which are nearly three times more expensive compared to India, Bangladesh and Turkey.

 

The price of Saxenda 6.0 mg/ml Solution has been increased to Rs 37,159 which is widely used by people with excessive weight.

The revised price of Rabies vaccine will be Rs 1,641 while Cresemba 100 mg capsules, which is used to treat certain serious fungal infections, will be available for Rs 77,227.

DRAP has approved the hike in the price of Favipiravir used in covid-19 management and its revised rate will be Rs 3,000.

Sources said that the authority has approved some new pharmaceutical drugs as well which are comparatively expensive than India, Bangladesh, and Turkey.

It added that the prices of medicines were jacked up in July while a formal notification for it was issued in August.

Another increase in drug prices in 3 years by PTI has antagonized the people as they are already suffering the effects of the hike in petroleum prices as well as of commodities.
