In this regard, the health department has issued a notification after the formulation of a committee to eradicate the business of counterfeit drugs.

The document said that the committee is directed to monitor the quality and prices of the medicines being sold across the province.

The health department seems concerned over the increase in the sales of substandard drugs in the pharmaceutical markets and shops, it added.

Sources disclosed that several raids were conducted in different markets and warehouses in the past, yet the perpetrators remained unpunished in most of the cases.

As a result, the sales and preparation of counterfeit drugs remained unhindered in KP.

However, the authorities have decided to keep a hawkeye on the illicit business for the next three months and a report will be submitted to the health department every 15 days.
