Sindh government has decided to vaccinate transgender people in Karachi even without a national identity card (NIC).

In this regard, the health department Karachi division has issued instructions to all district health officers (DHOs) of the megacity.

The measure has been taken to keep the marginalized community in the loop in the mass vaccination drive.

The letter to DHOs states that transgender people have a higher rate of morbidities and they are more prone to covid-19.

The health department will also set up separate registration counters and cubicles at all vaccination centers.

Apart from this, DHOs have also been instructed to take immediate steps for home vaccination of the community members.

The government will also offer a monetary reward or a free meal voucher to the transgender people on full vaccination to encourage their participation in the inoculation drive.

The rule of presenting NIC has also been relaxed for the transgender people to vaccinate all of them in Karachi as hundreds of them don’t possess the document.
