WEB DESK: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has said that the third phase of trial of coronavirus vaccine has begun in Pakistan.
According to him, this vaccine has been made by a Chinese company.
Around 40,000 people from seven countries will take part in the trial including eight to ten thousand Pakistanis.
The minister claimed that initial results can be observed in four to six months.
On last Saturday, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved a $150 million grant for the purchase of the immunization drug.
In the first phase, the vaccine will be provided to around 10 million health workers and people above 65 years of age.
However, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had said earlier on November 13, that in countries like Pakistan, the corona vaccine is not expected to arrive for the next 18 months.
He further added that the world’s four largest countries have a monopoly over corona vaccine.
While Pakistan is exporting $100 million worth of corona products.
On the other hand, Pakistan has also started the process of developing the vaccine.

A letter was issued by Prime Minister Imran Khan to the Ministry of health in this regard.
The letter holds that the ministry should prepare proposals in consultation with stakeholders and the private sector.
Prime Minister Imran Khan referred the correspondence with the United States. It was mentioned in the letter that the United States has agreed to cooperate in the development of the coronavirus vaccine in Pakistan.
Talking to News360 about the availability of vaccines in Pakistan, Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman said, “Three types of vaccines are under process.
‘Oxford’ is working on a vaccine called AstraZeneca.
‘Pfizer’ and ‘Moderna’ are also working on vaccine development. However, the timeline for the availability of vaccine in Pakistan is still uncertain.
According to Rehman, the Pfizer vaccine is useless for us as we need to keep it below minus 90 degrees Celsius.
China is also working on the corona vaccine. Due to good relations with China, it is possible that this vaccine will be available in Pakistan soon, he added.
Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman further said that there is no hope of immediate availability of corona vaccine in the country.
